Currently I am in the process of updating my childrens mini office lapbooks. This was a new idea I implemented this past year for each of my kids. This has been a fun way to learn and review. I started with brightly colored file folders and refolded them toward the center just as you would for most lapbooks. Then I added relevent items that I wanted them to learn or review. Some things I included for my 5th grader :
*Review of the 8 parts of speech
*List of prepositions
*Review of types of sentences
*List of the 7 wonders of the ancient world
*Five kingdoms of living things
*Body systems
*Latin names of the months
*The 12 Tribes of Judah
*3 Branches of Government and their functions
*The Writing Process
*Greek Alphabet
*Dates to memorize from our Mystery of History
*Layers of the forest
*Characteristics of mammals
All of these pertained to something we had already studied or would be studying for the school year. I typed many of these up in different font styles on colored copy paper to make the mini offices bright and colorful. I also hand wrote some on construction paper for variety.
For my 2nd grader:
*Small 100 chart
*Liquid measures
*Linear measurements
*His full name written in cursive
*Layers of the forest
*Noun description
*Verb description
*Adjective description
*Types of sentences
*Sight words
*Review of the 5 senses
*Money chart
*Count by 25's
*Migration definition
*Hibernation definition
*Characteristics of mammals
*Characteristics of birds
*Characteristics of insects
For my kindergarten kid:
*Review of address and phone number
*Her full named typed out
*Count by 5's
*Count by 2's
*Count by 10's
*Number line
*Days of the week
*Months of the year
*100 number chart
*Vowels
*5 senses
*shapes
*Colors in Spanish
*Layers of the forest
*Characteristics of mammals
*Characteristics of birds
*Characteristics of insects
I also includes small envelope pockets in each one so I could change out Bible verses, etc. as they needed to learn them.
The mini office lapbooks have added an element of fun learning this past year. The best part is I a can be creative and add anything I want to customize them and they are portable when we need to go somewhere. I enjoyed putting them together and I plan to make more of these.
